Cheer Chen Chi Chen is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter who is one of the more successful independent artistes. She released her debut album, Demo 1, in September 1997 and subsequently released another 4 albums before winning the Best Music Album Producer and Best Music Video awards at the 17th Golden Melody Awards in 2006. Although her recent music are more rock-oriented, Cheer Chen who has a pure, youth-sounding voice was initially folk-oriented in her music using just acoustic guitar. She has just released her new single, Loser’s Flight or Shi Bai Zhe De Fei Xiang, following her last album in 2005. Her upcoming fifth album is scheduled for release in this December.
Van Fan Yi Chen is a Taiwanese actor and singer who became popular after recording the Mandarin version of ‘I Believe’, a Korean song of the same title, in 2003. He also recorded the theme songs of various Taiwanese idol dramas including the hit, Listen With Your Heart. Piano, Love Story and Rang Wo Jing Yi Jing are his two other popular songs. Van Fan Yi Chen released his fourth and last album, Unspoken Gentleness or Bu Shuo Chu De Wen Rou, in 2006. However, he’s back with his very first compilation album, Wu Le Bu Zuo or Not Doing Without Being Happy, which contains a total of 30 songs. It includes 5 new songs and 25 best songs from his previous 4 albums. I think this is a good buy because most of us probably don’t have any of his old albums…

Evonne Hsu, an American-born Taiwanese pop singer, who last released her album, Mystery, in 2006, is back with a new album [EP], eVonne. Although this album contains only 3 songs of which all are new, eVonne comes with a total of 15 [yes, 15!] music videos [MV] including those for the new songs. The MVs are those from her debut album, To Be Happy or Kuai Le Wei Zhu, to her very last and sixth album. In fact, these MVs are worth even more than her 3 new songs because like Jolin Tsai, she also has a reputation of a dancing diva. Unfortunately, she had a permanent damage to her back some time ago which threaten to end her music career prematurely. Anyway, one of the new songs, Piano Of Memories or Ji Yi Gang Qin, is composed by Sky Wu, a respected veteran in the Chinese music scene [and everything he touches turn into piano including the title of this song].
After releasing his last album [not including the compilation album, Hins Cheung - My First Collection] almost a year ago, Hins Cheung is back with an all-new album, Urban Emotions. This talented artiste from China had just held a series of concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum in April. Urban Emotions, which is a Cantonese album, contains 14 tracks with 2 of them in Mandarin. The first one is a duet with Rihanna, Hate That I Love You, which is also available in Cantonese version, but of course, Rihanna sings in English! Both versions are easily the best ones in this album. The other one is the Mandarin version of his previous hit, Ardently Love.
