Online Shopping: 6 Tips For A Safer Experience

Online shopping which involves buying items from a business or an individual through an online retailer such as Redsave or an Internet auction can be fun, easy, practical, and economical. Most of the online shoppers do so to avoid crowds, save gas and simply for the convenience of shopping at any time of day or night. However, just as in the bricks and mortar world, shopping online also involves dealing with unscrupulous individuals who are out there to deceive consumers and make a quick buck.

Thus, various guides and tips have been published both in the mainstream media and of course, in the Internet itself to help online shoppers from ending up poorer and with a frustrating experience. Here are 6 tips for a safer online shopping experience:

01. Be Knowledgeable
You must read and understand the legal terms such as the rules, warranties and return policies because different retailers have different methods of handling the whole transaction process.

02. Ensure A Secure Internet Connection
Before providing personal and payment information, look for signs of a secure website or Internet connection such as a closed padlock on the browser’s address bar. In addition, the beginning of the URL [universal resource locater] address should change from http to shttp or https.

03. Price of Item
Always be suspicious of prices that are too good to be true. You may want to do a comparison of the price offered with other retailers be it online or offline to avoid paying too much for a similar item. You may also want to determine the extra shipping or handling costs which will further increase the total price of the item.

04. Payment Method
Credit card is the safest payment method compared with cash or money-wiring service because you can seek a credit if you don’t receive the item or receive a different item.

05. Inspection of the Goods
It is highly recommended to inspect the item carefully as soon as you receive it. This allows you to contact the retailer or seller as soon as possible for any defects on the item and request for a repair or refund.

06. Keep the Records
You need to save records of all your online transactions by printing the item description and price, retailer or seller information, terms, conditions and warranties regarding your purchase.

For those who are still clueless or haven’t start shopping online, you can start by looking at the amazing selection available at an online shop such as Redsave.com, a specialist online retailer which offers all the latest, hottest and most popular gifts, gadgets and toys.

  1. great advice, thanks!

  2. Also, if you end up purchasing something on the internet and never receive the item, you can call your credit card company to report it. They will file a claim against the company for you. You’d think it’s a lengthy process but it’s not. It saved me from paying for a $300 camera I never got from a internet camera company. I just called up my bank of america visa and they refunded me the money. Just a tip! :)
