Losing Net Neutrality
February 29th, 2008 | Written by Ginn Wei | Topic: Internet, Technology
Net neutrality is a popular and controversial issue because the internet is playing an increasingly important role in our daily live. This issue started to get more attention and coverage in the mainstream media when some countries blocked access to certain websites for various reasons. China is famous for blocking its users from accessing many websites such as Google and Youtube.
Then, the internet service providers [ISPs] all over the world started to throttle bandwidth or restrict the speed of file-sharing users in getting their files over various file-sharing networks. Bittorrent users are the most severely affected because of the large numbers of users and the very huge files being shared. However, the issue of net neutrality only started to gain more serious attention worldwide when US lawmakers introduce a new net neutrality bill.
