Launch Of .asia Domain

The regional internet domain for Asia, .asia, has officially opened for registration by governments and companies wanting to protect their trademarks and interests in this region. The registration for public will be opened in February 2008, one month before the domain is expected to be fully functioning in Internet. The creation of .asia domain had started in 2000 and DotAsia Organisation got the official approval to set up the domain in 2006. This is the second regional domain following the launch of .eu domain for Europe in 2006. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers(ICAAN) is also starting trials of net addresses in local alphabets of Arabic, Persian, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Russian, Hindi, Greek, Korean, Hebrew, Japanese and Tamil.
